Hmmm.  I agree.  Trouble is: this says more about the web than the merit of the 
Onion, which, at best, is dubious.  Most of their comedy is rather peurile and 
easy.  I'd like to see them age and mature a bit.  But, I do continue to check 
them out every week or two.  But, as I say, your observation is very correct, 
but is more a wake-up call for the web than I think you intended....
