Nope! Those people over there get paid to sit around all day and hassle
clubs for information, and etc. Nuh-uh. I did it one summer. It sucks.
Nobody's got the time to do it for free.
Lots of folks have tried various things on-line around here. Some HC
folks in Winston put up a web-based post-your-own-shows thing, and etc.
Some may still exist. If they do, there will be links from this site. In
fact, in terms of clubs, the folks at www.chapel-hill.nc.us have it
pretty much sewn up, as far as Chapel Hill goes, at least.
So check them out.
My priorities are (a) getting as much of the ch-scene archive re-found
and up on the web as possible, (b) getting pertinent bits out of the
archive and organizing them by subject (food, bands, clubs, stores,
whatever), and (c) using the folks who post here as an up-to-second
guide to the *best* stuff happening around here--something the Indy
seems less and less able to do.
So, for example, that week's picks thing will never have more than a
half-dozen or so things on it. And *I'm* not going to keep writing them,
at least not for folks I don't know or care about. *You* people write
what you always write--"hey, next friday there's a blah blah blah at
such-and-such," be somewhat persuasive and informative, and then all *I*
have to do is dump it up there.
For instance, tmorman is always trying to get me to go to raves.
Sometimes what he says about 'em is not only persuasive enough for *me*,
but for folks in general--so if he *posts* about that rave that's
happening in Durham in a couple of weeks, re-tells that scratching story
he told me today, then I can *cut* that out and drop it on the This Week
page.
That's all there is to it. I'm just looking for a slightly longer
shelf-life for the *pertinent* stuff that appears here (as opposed to,
say, all the Tickle Me Elmo traffic). I'm just going to filter and sort.
At present, since the archive is only about 10% here, I'm also going to
fill in stuff myself. But not much, and not for long. I don't have that
kind of energy. I'm looking forward to not having to update this thing
but once or twice a week, please.
ross I think of it as nothing more than a big electronic version of
those notes I'm always sticking in my pocket to remind me to do stuff
