Assuming, that is, that I'm not going to see G Love and Special Sauce.
Hey there's a paean to Lump on the Guide's This Week page. But that's
all that's on there tonight. Schedule-makers are running behind. I'm
running behind. Next thing on my little mini-list is on Jan. 11.
Somebody fill something in between now and then.
Five good local records this year? Polycarp, Trailer Bride, Polvo, Pipe,
Tractor Hips. That's five. There are others. Ask me again.
For those few of you who care: ex-June guitarist Tricia Tuttle is living
happily in the UK, right near a coffeeshop frequented by Polly Jean
Harvey. She (Tricia, not PJ) sends her love and regards.
Watching "Ridicule" this afternoon, I was struck by some exciting
realization, but I don't remember what it was. Too bad. Pretty good
movie, though. Parts of it were downright gorgeous, and it moved along
at a nice clip. It tended to flatten the fuck out of the
pre-Revolutionary French class structure, though--the interesting
premise that one's wit could take one a long way at Court very nearly
got transformed into "wit is the only thing that matters," which is a
load of horseshit.
Else why have that little revolution 6 years later?
There *is* a wry little lament by one supporting character,
post-Revolution, during the movie's coda, that it's a real pity that the
wit of Louis and his court had been replaced by dour old Danton's leaden
rhetoric. So there you go.
I am no longer, thanks to the publicity, eagerly awaiting *either*
"Larry Flynt" *or* "Evita."
Mark your calendars now: there's another Accelerators reunion coming up,
on Jan. 17th at the Brewery. With Whiskeytown and Dear Enemy. *Last*
Accelerators reunion show gave the distinct impression to all those
attending that approximately 2 weeks had passed since last they had
played together.
In other words, they were tight, loud, and every bit as rockstarry as
they ever were. I'm assuming that the same will be true of this year's
version. Worth seeing, whether you were around the first time, or you're
just curious about what the kids in the early 80s did for fun around
here.
Speaking of that, Bad Checks would appear to be releasing/have released
(something) a new EP, of, uh, new material, I guess. Go figure. If I see
one, I'll let you know.
