I just wanted to say that i agree with you, Diane. I think there's
definitely a connection between violent porn and sexual assault. There's
also a connection between any violence and violent behaviour. There
shouldn't be any doubt. My sincere question to you is: Is it the
picture's fault? Are the violent offenders predisposed to commit those
acts? Is Hustler the reason for some rapes or is it the catalyst? Is it
Beavis and Butthead's fault that some kid burned down a building? Should
it be cancelled because of the event?
Seems to me that it turns out that people suck. Some people are really
violent. What sets them off? I hate to think that Flynt or Hustler or
pornographic movies can be blamed for violent acts any more than heavy
metal can be blamed for satanism.
FWIW, I am offended when men whistle at women unsolicited. It pisses me
off that men can't control their urges more than that.
What is context? Should any given man think twice before approaching a
woman in a bar? How do people get together these days? If a guy
instigates a conversation, how does he do it? Should we all adopt an
Antioch College introduction protocol? Men are and should be afraid that
anything they say or do can be held against him in a court of law. So how
do we meet Mr(s). Right?
I'm not the expert at debate (obviously). Maybe my agenda is ultimately
wanting to meet a person that I really feel comfortable with. Actually I
have. But I hate to think about what would have happened if she had taken
anything I've said over the years as harassment. That would have really
sucked.
