  I agree with you on most of this.  I was listening not too long ago and heard somebody mixing REM with something that sounded like it came off of the last Boredom's record.  Still, you can do some cool as hell seques especially with rap or ambient music if you mix shit up.  Also, I am a new DJ myself and when I come across a 10 minute long spoken word piece in heavy rotation, I find myself reaching for the Excursion into Ambience comps for a little background.  I don't have the attention span for a 10 minute spoken word piece on a music station so I assume that the listener doesn't either.  Still, there is nothing more annoying than just let's turn on both the turntables and CD players and see how it sounds.  WEll, it sounds like shit...
