>David Kirsh got _pacifica_ carried on xyc *before* wsha had it.
when did xyc start with it? i thought i started hearing it there about '93.
sha has had it from sometime before '93 as i would deliberately tune in to
it on jaunts to the triangle before i started hearing it on xyc -after-
moving back to the triangle. is it possible sha discontinued pacifica for
a period?
>("listener support")
"advertiser" support. not knocking it. support fran and zoeys when ya can.
>If by "non-new yorker" you are referring to the fact that Godfrey was born
>and raised (and began writing) in Raleigh, well then, OK.
no, i'm referring to a) how _the spectator_ describes his participation in
the critic's circle (idunno how many time i've read the phrase "the only
non-new yorker elected to the prestigious new york critic's circle"), and
b) he seems to divide his time to here and is around quite a lot (peeps
are just polite and refer deferentially to him as an "nyc resident" to
avoid pointing out a grown man who lives with his parents), c) he lived
here when he was inducted in the circle, or at least seemed to from the
visibility he kept in local watering holes. is analogue a raleigh or
wilmington band? whatever they say at whatever moment. or whatever
one thinks. or whatever peeps observe. not necessarily in agreement.
this shit just cracks me up.
>Except for his NC Film Festival-related articles, I don't think Godfrey
>has written anything *primarily* for the Spectator in about three years.
he annually does the spread on the african-american film festival and the
asian-american film festival at the carolina theater (xdu had him on air
to talk about it once) and is being lined up to collaborate on the first
full-blown adf film festival coming up this summer (a mini-experimental
version was held last summer). these are all commentaries of considerable
effort most writers wouldn't be up to if they had all year to prepare.
it's only natch the spectator would continue to carry his reviews.
it's only natch they delay the reviews until the films get here.
as for editing the new yorkerisms, i never noticed a special
translated edition of _spy_ for us hicks here in the triangle.
i'm down with hanging with the colloquialisms; no need to dumb
down what's already crap. it takes about two seconds to figure
out mrs. mayor if one didn't already know, and -i'm- as slow of
a reader as they come.
>Are you sure *that* was the reason Rick chose 'Rick Rock'?
no. not sure. never am. whoever is lies. trust memory no more than 'history'.
just an old joke i've heard both ricks say. they seemed to enjoy/politely
disguise annoyance with the confusion.
>Anyway, to be even more technical,
ok, i suspect you're playin with me coz i may jangle your, um, certain nerves,
so turn-about is fair play or free play or sumpin, i suppose; projects to fix
figurative meanings just rankle me. ask me to define faux, mensonge?
you're beautiful, baby.
