Just wanted to point these out as "don't miss" shows. Saw Shipp (along
with Spooky) about as much as anyone could imagine over the summer, and
still think he's the bee's knees. Parker is fast becoming the most
important free jazz bassist of our age and Shipp, despite his youthful
demeanor can hang no problem. See the amazing _Zo_ CD for a preview of
this show, or the great Shipp solo CD. This is what improv is about
and in the duo format you can actually hear what's happening. nice
booking.
Hooker is like Thurston, who he's played with a lot actually, and I have
no idea what the trio is. Alike in that they both have a MO that will
appear everythime they do, but the way that it unfolds may change from
context to context. All of pounding, but somehow in a way that sounds
more like the ocean than a jackhammer. Only time I've ever been lurred to
lucid dreaming by a drummer was at his show in the small room in the Knit
this summer.
Go see these shows, especially as Shipp will be a god in about 10 years
and you'll want to say you saw him when...

PS Has the new Knit comp come into the stations/stores there - I got
production credit for DJing them over the summer.
